The service life of a car depends largely on the life of its “heart” – the engine. In daily life, we often have some bad driving habits, such as overloading, high-speed driving, and slamming on the accelerator. But you may not realize that the biggest harm to engine performance and life should be dirt and pollution, which are the first killer of the engine.
The filter can effectively solve the problem of impurities and pollution. As one of the 60 key parts of a car, it plays an irreplaceable role in protecting the car engine. Through experiments, we know that if the car does not have a filter, the engine will wear out unusually fast, especially modern high-speed engines wear faster.
With the update and iteration of engine technology, the requirements for filters are getting higher and higher. Therefore, it is also very necessary to understand the knowledge about car filters:
The engine has three kinds of filters: air, oil, and fuel, generally referred to as “three filters”. They are responsible for filtering the media in the engine intake system, lubrication system, and fuel system respectively.
Air filter
The car engine is a very delicate component. Any tiny impurities may affect the performance of the engine or even damage the engine. Therefore, before the air enters the cylinder, it must first be finely filtered by the air filter to remove harmful impurities and ensure air quality, so as to ensure the first checkpoint for the engine.
At present, the paper filter element type filter is widely used in the market. It has the advantages of light weight, low cost, easy replacement, and high filtration efficiency. It is generally cleaned every 5,000 kilometers and must be replaced every 25,000 kilometers. Cleaning or replacement is finally done by professionals.
Oil filter
The engine oil is known as the “blood” of the “heart” engine of the car, which shows its importance. Its function is to filter out harmful impurities in the engine oil from the oil pan, and supply the crankshaft, connecting rod, camshaft, supercharger, piston ring and other movements with clean engine oil, which plays a role in lubrication, cooling and cleaning, thereby extending the life of these parts.
The oil filter is divided into replaceable, spin-on and centrifugal according to the structure; it can be divided into full flow and split flow according to the arrangement in the system. The filter materials used in oil filters include filter paper, felt, metal mesh, non-woven fabrics, etc. With the advancement of technology,most cars, trucks and other engines use spin-on oil filters currently, which have the characteristics of high filtration efficiency, low flow resistance and long service life.
Fuel filter
Fuel filters are divided into three categories: diesel filter, gasoline filter and natural gas filter. Its function is to filter out harmful particles and moisture in the engine fuel and gas system to protect the oil pump nozzle, cylinder liner, piston ring, etc., reduce wear and avoid blockage.
Precautions for replacing gasoline filters
- (1) After replacing and installing the gasoline filter and the oil filter, pay attention to the sealing of the interface and be alert to oil leakage;
- (2) For the air filter and the air conditioning filter, ensure the overall sealing after replacement;
- (3) Take good care of the gasoline filter and try to use the matching grade gasoline specified by the car manufacturer.
Proper maintenance of the car is irreplaceable for improving vehicle performance, safety and driving experience. Maintenance of car filters is of utmost importance. Take good care of the “three filters” of your car and enjoy speed and passion!
