Air pollution has become a serious problem in today’s society, which has a serious impact on human health and the ecological environment of the earth. With the development of the economy and population problems, the situation of air pollution will become increasingly severe. What is easily overlooked is that indoor air pollution is even more terrible than outdoor air pollution. Therefore, more and more people are beginning to seek indoor air purification solutions, and HEPA high-efficiency air filters are one of the effective solutions.
What is a HEPA high-efficiency air filter?
It is a filter made of special materials that can efficiently capture tiny particles in the air. Its main material is a non-woven fabric made of glass fiber or polypropylene fiber. This material has a very dense fiber structure and can capture tiny particles above 0.3 microns. This size usually includes all common allergens, such as PM2.5, pollen, animal dander, dust mites, viruses, bacteria, etc. Its filtration efficiency reaches more than 99.7%, which can meet the daily purification needs of the family. In addition to efficiently filtering tiny particles, HEPA high-efficiency air filters can also effectively remove odors, smoke, formaldehyde and other harmful gases in the air. This is because the fibers on the filter have a strong adsorption capacity, which can adsorb and catalytically decompose harmful gas molecules. This is important for all families, especially newly renovated houses.
HEPA is not a brand or trademark, but an international standard for measuring filtration efficiency.
Working principle of HEPA high-efficiency air filter
The filtration we understand is usually like a sieve to filter out particles larger than the mesh, but HEPA high-efficiency air filters are not like this. The basis of all HEPA filters is 0.5 to 5 micron thick intersecting fibers, so the question is, how can such a large gap filter 0.3 micron particles? In 1942, the United States implemented the Manhattan Project and established the HEPA theory, which confirmed that the most difficult particle diffusion movement to capture is 0.3 micron particles. This is actually due to the van der Waals force between the particles and the filter, which forms an adsorption effect to stick to the tiny particles. The work of the HEPA filter is reflected in three forms:
Interception: Larger particles cannot pass through the gaps between the fibers and are directly intercepted on the filter.
Inertial impact: Due to its weight, particles cannot change direction with the airflow, and will directly collide with the fiber and adhere to the fiber surface. This is the “inertial impact effect“.
Diffusion: Smaller particles have a difference in direction with the airflow due to irregular Brownian motion. The smaller the particle, the more intense the Brownian motion, and eventually it hits the fiber and is captured.
In addition, as long as it comes into contact with the intercepted particles, the new particles will attach to the original particles, and the filter gap will eventually become smaller and smaller, so the HEPE filter needs to be replaced regularly.
Application scenarios of HEPA high-efficiency filters
Due to its excellent filtering performance, HEPA high-efficiency filters play an important role in many fields:
Air purification: In addition to the familiar home air purification, many commercial scenarios, such as hotels, shopping malls, offices, etc., also use HEPA high-efficiency filters in ventilation systems to improve air quality and bring a pleasant breathing experience.
Industrial purification: Many industries have extremely high requirements for the production environment and must carry out production in a dust-free purification environment, such as bio-pharmaceuticals, laboratories and other places involving precision instruments, and food industry, aerospace fields, etc., all require the use of high-specification filters to meet production needs.
Other special scenarios: cultural relics restoration, museums and other high-cleanliness places.
How to choose HEPA high-efficiency filters
To choose the right filter, we need to consider factors such as filtration efficiency, product size, maintenance and replacement costs, installation methods, brand quality, noise, etc. Mengfei Filtration is a filter element manufacturer with many years of experience, providing a variety of specifications and sizes of special filters for air conditioners, vacuum cleaners, precision instruments, etc., to create a cleaner production and living space for you.
